the whole package.

It was  my birthday a few days ago and something happened that I’ll never forget.

I’m sure you have heard people say that birthdays become less exciting the older you get. I tried to not believe that statement, but it really is true. I think as we get older, birthdays just become more of an event where we realize things. This birthday made me realize how grateful I am for my amazing husband.

About a month ago I received an e-mail from Jan Friz regarding photography equipment. “She” was specific and asked what my dream line of equipment would be. I receive e-mails all the time about questions other photographers have. When I first wanted to start a photography business I was advised to seek out those who inspire me, ask them what worked for them, and then make it to be my own. As I e-mailed those people that I thought could point me in some direction I found that either they up and left to a place with no way to communicate or they really could care less about answering me. Some actually did e-mail me back little pieces of advice that I was grateful for, but over all, I was hurt at the lack of replies. The fact that I was frustrated isn’t the point of my birthday story, but to lead into the fact that I’m an open book. I don’t know everything, I actually have so much more to learn. But I e-mailed Jan back and hoped that what I said might help her in any way possible.

The afternoon of my birthday, a package arrived on our front porch. I was so excited!!!  There is something about receiving a package or mail that just makes me feel important. I looked down and the name instantly stood out and had my mind racing 100 mph. I know that name.. I know that name…WAIT! I know that handwriting. Then it clicked.

My sweet husband is Jan :)

I yelled for Jared as he came running up the stairs almost as excited as I was. We took it into the room and just laughed. I was almost positive his present that he had mentioned he got me had nothing to do with my camera.

He got me. He got me good! Probably one of the most thoughtful things anyone has done for me. When I think of him creating a whole different e-mail and trying to be all sneaky, it makes me smile.
